I've been trying to install the upgrade version of SoftMaker Office 2010 that I purchased. It gets to the point of actually installing and then stops with an error code. The code is 2755. Can anyone tell me what this code means? I'm afraid it may have something to do with my system but I may not be able to determine that without knowing what the error code means.

What Windows or OS are you installing to or using SM on?

Installer Error Code 2755 can be caused by a range of problems, most usually:

- Make sure that the directory or folder you are installing into allows writing to that directory or folder.

To resolve this problem, change the permissions on the Installer folder. The permissions on the Installer folder should be Everyone - Read Administrators - Full System - Full.

- On some Windows 7 systems, you may need to run the installer as an administrator.

Would be good to know more about the system you are working with, for sure, as installer problems are actually VERY rarely seen, and install problems are normally very few and far between.

Of course, my system would be the one with the rare problem.

I am running Win XP Pro SP3 on an Intel Celeron 2.4 Ghz processor w/1.2 GB of RAM. When I
attempt to install, it loads to the point of actually trying to install and then it gives me the following error:

"The system cannot open the device or file specified"

When I click Retry I get that same message and when I click Cancel it gives me the
following error message:

"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This
may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755"

I have SM Office 2008 installed and it works fine. I have re-downloaded the install file and have gotten the same results.

Is there anything else you needed to know?

I really appreciate your time and thoughts on the issue.

Please delete the .exe file and download it again (and of course restart your machine after). It may be that something went wrong during the download procedure.

Me again! Thanks so much for all the help.

Sven, I did as you recommended and still had the same problem. Since it was the installer that was complaining, I decided to download and reinstall the Windows Installer v4.5 for WinXP SP3. After rebooting, SM Office installed without a hitch. I hope this helps someone else running WinXP. Thanks again to Joe and Sven for their help and patience! I'm looking forward to using SM Office in my workplace and putting it up against MS Word!
