Hi

I am using Windows 7 & Softmaker 2010 & Epson Stylus SX 400. I have just noticed what may be a problem when one prints from Print Preview.

If I print a single sheet, say a letter in normal print mode and I select one sheet to be printed. It prints fine, if I use print preview it prints out multiple sheets and I have to cancel it. Is this a bug or how do I stop it printing so many shhets

I'm sure it will all be fixed in the next service pack. It should come out in the next year or so...

Martin, so when do you think the next service pack will be out?

Was there a lot of stuff that had to be changed regarding SO2010 compatibility with MS Office 2010, or not so much? I've become sort of disheartened using MS Office versions, because I thought there would be better compatibility between, say, MS Word '03 and Word '10, but there is no true compatibility, only 'compatibility mode'. My plan had been to convert all my .doc files to .docx, but I'm losing my document layout that I had optimized for printing in the old .doc files, and opening them in Word '10 they will not be retained as I had them. Looking at that, I must say I am impressed by how well TextMaker is compatible with Word '03 -- I just have not done much testing between Word '10 .docx and TextMaker, so this is why I asked you about it just now.

Hi Sven

When I posed my question about print preview printing many copies of the same page, even though it should have printed one, I thought the replies were a bit general and wandered off track.

I did make a prior search of previous posts, but, found nothing.

So, my questions are these. 1) Is the problem I outlined in the first post of this thread one that is known? 2) Is it scheduled for correction at some point?

Dear Terry,

as I cannot reproduce this problem here I don't think that's a general problem in TextMaker (at least not with the latest revision and hotfix). I sent you an hotfix via pm. Have you installed it? Does it solve your problem?

I have to confess that I may have jumped the gun a bit on this problem, either because my understanding of Textmaker is not as fulsome as I would wish or because I did not read the manual. However I still think there may be a problem. The undernoted

The upshot is this, if you produce a single piece of correspondence NOT using the database to input addresses. Then the Print Preview box has less options and when you print from the Print Preview page, one copy only is printed unless you tell it do more.

If you Print Preview a document produced from data via the database then the Print Preview page has some extra options under the heading "Records"

The crucial one is called "Range from and to". If you want to print just one copy you need to set the range from one to one. The range by default is set to the full number of records in your database - So be warned!

THE PROBLEM HERE IS that the range function appears to be acting as the elsewhere provided "No of Copies" function
in other words, in my database there are 19 entries, if I produce one letter via the database and don't set the range function from 1 to 1, then I get 19 copies of THE SAME LETTER

Unless this is a bug, and I feel it may be, I feel this aspect of printing from the Print Preview could be improved and made clearer. Also the default should be NO printing. That way inadvertent printing of reams of paper is avoided.

Even so why does it print copies of the same letter?

Hotfix 5080 appears to solve the problem described in these various posts. Thank you.

I think however you might have introduced another issue which I will try to describe here.

First open letter template with address fields thereon.

Second open Address database and select (put ticks in small square boxes) for those addresses you require to print

Third Go to opened letter template with fields, THEN click on Print Preview:

What you then see is STILL the Address Fields, NOT THE First address from the database. Also I am not sure how you would scroll through to see the selected addresses in Print Preview.

HOWEVER, despite the above, when you click print from print preview all the letters print out OK

The net effect of what I am saying is, Print Preview is redundant in its current configuration simply because you cannot print preview.

If I have missed something please let me know.

In the print preview, there is a field called "records" in the toolbar. Here you can switch forward and backward through your addresses in the print preview. The first preview shows only the fields. That's correct.
