As Softmaker 'gobbles up' the world of the 'Office' user, it will become apparent that many users require to use desktop search engines to find information in a host of documents. I am one. I have many hundreds of legal documents and letters and require to search regularly across all documents.

Any search engine I choose, ignores Softmaker Office files. If somebody is embarking on a venture where many documents will be produced over time, they may take this 'hole' to be a good reason NOT to use Softmaker.
I do not know how the engine designers obtain the information to permit them to index files. If it is the case that they rely on let us say, Softmaker, then would it be wise to generate the required information and submit it to Google, Copernicus, Likasoft and others, to corner the piece of the market you will miss out on.
Oh! and help me at the same time.
[Edit] Please start with Likasoft (Archivarius 3000, the ultimate engine).

It's up to the developers of the desktop search engines if they support SoftMaker file formats or not.

We however plan to develop our own plugin for Windows Desktop Search some time in the future.

Donone and all...

Over the years, we have tested, given workshops on and urged software makers to get together to expand their markets and potentials.

As regards Desktop Search Engines and Software (we call it DSES internally):

We independently (no one pays us to say this) recommend looking at the Archivarius 3000 and the Copernic Desktop Search products, as they can be very easily integrated into SoftMaker Office, and/or they as products could easily be made able to search SoftMaker Office files for content, and then display this found content -- as displaying the found content is the key need here.

Both Archivarius 3000 and the Copernic Desktop Search products should easily locate SoftMaker Office files by just "telling" both software products to add them into the list of files searched for.

However, it's the display of the found SoftMaker Office files that is where SoftMaker, Archivarius, and Copernic staff should especially join forces for mutual benefit, and the clear benefit of their respective end-users -- it's simply good business to do so, and all concerned add to their markets and potential sales.

Knowing the companies and their products, and end-users needs, I could and would be happy to interface to all three companies to bring this mutually positive "association" to fruition.

In comparison, although Microsoft Search (and the required indexing) has gotten "better" over the years, frankly, Archivarius 3000 and the Copernic Desktop Search products are far superior, always have been, and always will be. When you use these products, sometimes on a daily basis for a few years, you will realize why I make this statement.

Thank you for the support on this josephrot. I think that to pass the responsibility to the engine providers, without interfacing with the company is very short sighted and a mistake as I explained in my initial post.
Business is being lost, I am convinced, for the sake of a few emails.
The business lost will also include upgraders not upgrading.
Had I realised this problem before embarking with Softmaker, I think I would have stuck with Word, despite its unneeded complexity.

I hope more comes of this.
