Hello Texters:

Quite frequently, I need to add new words to the dictionary. In most cases, they are proper nouns -- unusual names of people or communities.

I just noticed that I added a mistaken spelling to the dictionary. :( I used the "Add" in the right-click drop-down menu.

How can I go to the dictionary itself, or simply to the words that I have added, to delete the mistake that I have put in there?

On the same topic, is there a way that can call up that dictionary, and add a list of words? -- in this case, those unusual proper nouns that come up frequently when I am preparing text of spreadsheet documents.

Thanks in advance for your time and interest. :)

Hello,

please have a look in the settings folder in My Documents\SoftMaker\. There should be a file called useng.udc or ukeng.udc (depends on the language you use for the spell checker but the file ends with .udc). Thats your user dictionary. You can open it with Wordpad or Notepad and edit or delete all words in it. If you want you can just add or copy words into it.

Thank you very much Sven for responding so quickly and clearly to my questions. :)

Actually I found both dictionaries there. As I normally use the U.K. Dictionary, the ukeng.udc list there was longer.

Does Textmaker check both of those user dictinaries during spell-checking? Or does it only use the default language at the time? It the latter is the case, would I then need to add the same words to the other dictionary as well?

By the way: I am now able to find how to edit those dictionaries in the Help file, from within the program. I missed that  when I was searching for that information before submitting this post. However I am happy to have this alternate, and very direct method that you have explained here.

TextMaker uses only the ukeng.udc file if "UK English" is set as your default language and uses only useng.udc if "US English" is set. TextMaker always ignores all other (not currently used) dictionaries.
