I have just installed a trial version of Office 2010 on my Windows7 netbook. During the installation, WinPatrol PLUS informed me that SMASH was set to start at Windows startup and asked whether I wanted to allow that. I said yes, but after the installation had finished, I checked with WinPatrol's information, and it informed me that it wasn't absolutely necessary for SMASH to start at startup and run all the time. I try to limit the number of programs that start at startup to the few I need to have running right away. I suspect that SMASH is not such a pprogram, but I don't know exactly what it does so I can't be sure. I'd be most grateful if someone would tell me what function SMASH performs and whether I can remove it from the startup menu. (I did try to find an explanation in the TextMaker manual and in the forum's search, but I did not succeed.)

Thanks in advance for your help.

I removed SMASH from my startup with no problems.

Thanks very much, Little Otter, for your response. I'll probably do the same, though I'd still like to know what SMASH does.

SMASH is a shortcut program to start the SoftMaker applications from the tray. It is absolutely not necessary, I've never used it.
