I wish to change the 'normal' style template so that Textmaker 2010 always opens with my choice of font, but so far having tried different ways I have been unable to do this. I am new to Textmaker so would welcome some advice.

You find a tutorial here: http://www.softmaker.com/english/tipstm_en.htm (second bullet). There is even a link to a video showing how to do this.

1. Open Normal.tmv. I’m running WIndows7 and it is located in D:\MyDocuments\Softmaker\Templates2010.
2. Click on the Format menu.
3. Click on Paragraph Style.
4. With Normal selected, click on the Edit button.
5. Click on the Character button.
6. Make the changes you want.
7. Click on the OK button.
8. Click on the OK button.
9. Click on the Close button.
10. Save the Normal.tmv template and close it.

Thank you. I have tried that but when I come to save the normal.tmv template file I get an error message: 'Error saving file. disk full? (2000)' That particular drive is not full as less than one third is taken up.

Strange. What if you save Normal.tmv to another drive/partition and move it by hand into your template directory?

Thinking this may be a Vista UAC problem I edited the normal.tmv file and saved it as a template to the desktop. I then tranferred it to the templates folder - I was asked did I want to replace I clicked yes, went through the UAC permission and that was it. Opened the normal.file direct from the folder and it is OK as edited. But when I open Textmaker it still opens up with the usual default normal style.

Check the path of your template folder in TextMaker (Tools :arrow2: Options..., tab "Files"). Is this the same folder you saved the new Normal.tmv in?
If it isn't, change it. If it is, go to File :arrow2: New... and check the list of templates you are offerred. Is there only one "Normal.tmv"? Higlight it and click the "Set default" button. Then try again.

I've set to 'default' - nothing else - and that was it, all ok, my changes are all there. Strange.

Thanks

In the template are you sure that you changed "Format, Paragraph Style" and not "Format,Paragraph"?

Inside the D:\MyDocuments\Softmaker\Templates2010 folder should be folder for the language that you're using. When you make a change the the nprmal.tmv file is the date and time being changed for the template file and is there a normal.bak file?

The date and time was changed and no, there is no .bak file. It seemes that I have achieved what I set out to do and assume that at anytime in the future I can change the normal file again if I so choose. That is OK thank you again.
