Dear SoftMaker Team,

may I suggest you add a preference choice in the Tools>Options menu for Hyphenation behaviour, please. I understand that the current default is "Hyphenation>Always" but as an English writer I find it annoying to have to keep correcting to my preference of "Format>Paragraph>Hyphenation>None" on opening documents for the first time in TextMaker, or when pasting large amounts of (unhyphenated) text from an external source into a document where "Hyphenation>None" was already established. I have found that I can edit the "Normal" style to reflect my preference in eliminating hyphenation behaviour, but this style modification is not preserved between documents. Although the use of the hyphen is currently a source of much debate in modern English writing styles, it is fast becoming the exception rather than the rule.

Cheers.

Hello,

I am not sure if it makes sense to deactivate the hyphenation by default.

However, you should simply open the Normal.tmv document template, turn off hyphenation there, and save it. All future documents based on it have hyphenation off.

In the "Tools" menu there is a global checkbox "Automatic Hyphenation". By deselecting it you should be fine.

Thanks very much for that, guys - I'll implement those suggestions immediately.

Cheers!

EDITS:
Jossi, thankyou for pointing that "Automatic hyphenation" option out - I don't know how I missed it. (Would that option be more intuitively placed in the Format>Paragraph>Text Flow dialogue perhaps, with the other hyphenation options?) Now, in combination with Sven's suggestion to overwrite the Normal.tmv, my documents behave just as I prefer them when opening, cut'n'pasting from external sources etc. Many Thanks! My only observation is purely cosmetic - that on removing the hyphenation behaviour, the "Always" remains the highlighted option in the Text Flow dialogue, rather than reflecting the new preference of "None". No biggie.

I agree with arobbo and would be glad if hyphenation was not the default setting!
I edit and write documents in Dutch and in English, I sometimes must combine both languages in one text, often I paste texts from the web into existing or new documents. Switching off the default hyphenation time and again is really annoying.

If you change your Normal.tmv as described by Sven and arobbo, "Hyphenation off" is saved and you don't need to switch it off every time you start TextMaker.
In German with its exceptionally long words, hyphenation is in most cases necessary. Microsoft Word comes with hyphenation off by default and this results in lots of extremely ugly-looking documents in German as people don't know how to switch it on by default.
