I think you should not neglect this market. Mac OSX is getting more momentum than Linux on the desktop market. There is a definite gap in this market. If you can develop a MacOSX version of your SoftMaker office suite, you can make an alliance with Apple and this will increase your sales a lot. Also it will help them to sell their laptops with preloaded office suite. My 2 cents.

The MSFT version of Office is 499$ for professional edition, standard is 399$, student edition is 199$.

That's understood. But it is good that at least you see this as a wise investment. Taking sponsorships from Apple in this regard may help you financially to employ more developers.

Beware again. Apple is coming back. And their Mac customers also need a cheap decent office software. I know one candidate (softmak..).
