First off my congratulations on an absolutely fantastic office suite softmaker! It's the first one where I cease to notice the interface or the program itself and am able to focus purely on the task at hand - well done indeed

I do however have what is probably a rather obscure issue with Planmaker. I use spreadsheets regularly for handling genomic data that in virtually all cases exceeds 16384 rows. I see in the help files that planmaker is restricted to that number, and I'm wondering if you had any plans to extend that limit in the future?

The reason I ask is that I'm almost salivating at the thought of being able to leverage power from the basicmaker plugin to automate some enormous tasks that I have coming up, and would prefer to use planmaker over excel or access

Yes we plan to extend the limit of rows in PlanMaker in upcoming versions.

Any idea on how much row limit the new version will have?

For excel 2003 it is: 65,536 rows by 256 columns
For excel 2007 it is : 1,048,576 rows by 16,384 columns !


At the moment, i stil need office because of the limit of planmaker. While i like Textmaker a lot, planmaker is no option for me with those limits.

Planmaker is at version 2008 and stil limited at 16384 rows, but by how many columns, for rows planmaker is 4 times more limited then excel 2003, and even 64 times more limited then excel 2007.

If the limit would be like excel 2007 or more, that would be awasome.

PlanMaker 2010 will support 65536 rows out of the box. That limit exists not because of PlanMaker' (lack of) capabilities, but because we don't yet have an export format for more than 65536 rows.

As soon as our XSLX export is running, we can increase the limit to 1 million rows. (XLSX import is already shaping up nicely).

Any idea that the 1 million limit will be later in Planmaker 2010?

The weird thing that i find is, isn't CSV some kind of unlimited in rows? Or is it more like a txt limitation that planmaker saves as a CSV extension? Hm now i see on the "save as" options, i see only txt, and in another message on this form i did see you could turn the extension to csv, so i gues it is something like that.

I guess a true export to csv could also be possible for exporting more then 65536 rows? i think that would be better then XSLX export, because more programs can handle csv files.

There is no date set yet for the XLSX export feature. We will begin work on that after XLSX and PPTX import are completed.

CSV, while technically able to store an arbitrary number of rows, is totally unsuitable as a spreadsheet file format. It stores only results, not formulas -- so, it can only be used for export, not for actually working with a spreadsheet.
