I can reproduce the Ctrl-y bug in columns after using Ctrl-z.
Column breaks and searching in columns with Ctrl-h work fine with me. Which column height is given in Format :arrow2: Section... in the "Height" field? Does the column break problem only occur with "Auto", "Page height", "Fixed height"?
I don't understand how you can get two paragraph marks in a row, as a paragraph mark always starts a new row.
Could you upload a sample document?

Manual column breaks are not possible when the column height is set to "Auto".
