I (and some little ones) recently went to see The Tale of Despereaux - an animated film about (surprise) rats, and mice, and humans. I enjoyed the film but what really caught my eye was the beautiful calligraphy.

Some research tells me that the calligrapher responsible for the beautiful writing in the film was Veiko Kespersaks - see his web site

http://www.kalligrafia.com

I gather he is Finnish though he now lives in London.

I am not sure that calligraphy is really a viable art in these computerised days, but I get immense pleasure from such beautiful work. Long may it continue.

Thank you for the link, Lance. Handmade calligraphy is a most beautiful art and will surely keep its place in the future. For the rest of us who lack this artistic gift: You can get some fine results by using the font Zapfino Extra, an astounding calligraphic handwriting font by Hermann Zapf with lots of variations in letter forms.
