I have just uninstalled SoftMaker Office 2010 and then installed version 2012 on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Everything seemed to go smoothly until I tried to open a document I had made in TextMaker 2010. It's totally garbled! For one thing, it opened in hex, though I have never asked TextMaker to open documents in hex. But even after I unchecked the option to open in hex, it is still very garbled and unusable. I am trying to write reports with deadlines, and now I find myself with no usable word processing program. I would be most grateful for your help ASAP.

I think I've identified the source of the problem. When I installed SoftMaker Office 2012, I said yes, I wanted all appropriate documents' file associations to go to SoftMaker Office. Apparently that didn't happen. After the shock of seeing my garbled documents wore off, I went into Options (again) to see whether there was anything about a hex setting. When I got to the System tab, out of idle curiosity I clicked on Associate File Types, even though I had already done this when I installed the program, or so I thought. Well, it turned out that only TextMaker file extensions were associated with TextMaker. I quickly changed that, and Bingo! the problem was solved. It looks as if the option to associate file types during installation may have a bug in it.
