Since TextMaker 2010 we've had this problem of text copied and pasted from the Web into TextMaker (via clipboard) ending up in 10pt font, even though one's default font size is 12pt (my default template has 12pt TMR). TextMaker 2012 still manifests the same behavior (although I thought we had fixed this once in TM2010, but maybe I'm wrong).

Also, whenever you copy and paste text, the paragraph spacing gets taken out competely (doesn't pick up on html formatting I guess) so all the text looks crammed and is hard to work with.

The page I was trying to copy and paste into TextMaker is the following: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee523217%28v=ws.10%29.aspx

When I did the same into Word 2010, everything displayed correctly: I had 12pt font and there were paragraphs spaces just like in the article.

Thanks...

If you paste the text via Paste Special... (Ctrl+Shift+V) and choose "Unformatted text", it should be displayed in your standard formatting.

Thanks Jossi, but this does not achieve what I am looking for. Unformatted text filters out not only the images but also bullets, etc. To show what I mean, here are some screenshots:

Straight copy and paste into Word 2010:

TextMaker 2012 with formatted text (reverts to 10 pt and jumbles proportions):

Image

TextMaker 2012 with unformatted text (stays at 12 pt, cuts images, bullets, etc.):

I would like my internet copy and pastes to resemble the appearance of the page while conforming to the default template form, as Word 2010 does. I have been doing this all through Word '03, '07, and '10 and find it very useful and I think it should be a standard thing.

Hmmm... My browser displays this webpage not in Times Roman, but in Arial, but when I paste it into TextMaker, it's Times New Roman 10 (which is not my standard formatting). As I'm a complete noob with HTML, I don't know what happens here. Maybe the SoftMaker support team should have a look at it.

Yes, the default template that comes with TextMaker (which is 10pt TMR), even if you replace it with your custom default template, will still force itself upon you in many instances of copy/paste.

I have set 12pt TMR as default on both Word 2010 and TextMaker 2012. Word conforms the copied text to the defaults I have in place, but TextMaker reverts to its own default template defaults. So I think this could hardly be called a seamless copy/paste situation. I remember this issue has been discussed during TextMaker 2010 discussion, and evidently it never really got fixed.

This is reproducible for me and I informed the developers.

While I generally agree with the above comments -- We should also a note how effective TextMaker 2012 has become -- For copying data from a webpage.

My "to be more effective suggestion" is to keep a hard carriage return if the original webpage text had a hard carriage return.

Microsoft Word tends to keep most of the html-tags, and; that is where you might have a 12-point line of text that actually takes up 24-points. TextMaker 2012 has eliminated most of this carry-over html-tagging, as well as actually preserving graphics, after pasting into TextMaker.

I'm really appreciative of how much easier it is now to copy and paste data from websites. What I usually do is (shortcut-key) Ctrl-A after Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V -- Changing the font to Lydian, and to 12-points, before mild formatting, and the addition hard carriage returns.

Sure, but have you tried copy and paste on that site I referred to into Word 2010, and then copy and paste from Word 2010 to TextMaker 2012? It will retain the proportions and fonts then. So it looks more like a half-functional feature than anything.

It is almost June 2012, rev 663 is out, and this copy and paste from the web issue has not been touched yet. If you would remember, this was already an issue in the SoftMaker 2010 suite. You can set default font size to whatever you like, say 12pt TMR like I have, but TextMaker ignores it all and will paste as 10pt TMR anyway. On top of this, the html or other layouts get ignored (at least substantially) as well.

If the developers at SoftMaker have no intention of fixing this, please come out and say it, so I will not test this every SP that comes out and will just use any of MS's office suite, from 2003 through 2010, as they ALL work fine when it comes to copy and pasting from the web. In my honest/frank opinion, though, this should have been fixed ages ago -- and in fact I would consider a word processor that cannot achieve this as a beta and not at any final stage. But that is just my opinion, of course. How about giving Android mobile suites (which is silly from any serious productivity standpoint IMO) a little less attention and work on the Flagship instead?

Patrick

Yes, the bug has not been solved yet. I raised the priority and will inform you as soon as I have any news.

It seems like the way the default font size/page setup settings are stored or accessed, there an 'additional' action necessary if anyone's default setting are different from the 10pt standard default. For example, I always notice a slight 'extra action' or flicker when TextMaker starts up in the case you have a default template that is different from the standard default of SMO. When you start up TextMaker, it will produce a slight flicker/delay when the default template is different from the standard default. Almost like the appliation is checking against the tmv file and needs to do something extra when it veers from the standard default. It's hard to explain but I have noticed that since TM 2010 also.

On top of this (and perhaps connected with what I just said) TM keeps trying to revert everything to 10 pt, regardless of what your custom default is. In my opinion, there should be no difference or other 'option' than the default you give it. So why does TextMaker harbor its own 10pt default regardless of what you input as default? I think herein lies the problem here, and I think because of the nature of this problem this web thing has never been fixed either, because it would require some major re-write of the feature for it not to act that way. That's what I think :) Please prove me wrong :P

But yes, further, it's disturbing to find out that this fix could still be elevated in priority :) Re-formatting entire pages both font-wise and layout-wise is not exactly an exotic request I would think. But, now I understand why the bug isn't fixed yet, because it didn't have high priority!

Another thing: when you copy and paste something from the web into TextMaker that is wrapped in code tags, TextMaker mangles this up in a BAD way... But when I paste the same in WordPad or Notepad or anything else, it displays it properly.

For example, take the code-wrapped entries ("Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00, etc. entries) in this post and copy and paste them into TextMaker (http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/131086-release-adobe-reader-91-corporatelite/page__p__842358#entry842358). They will appear as such in TextMaker:

Code:

class="pun">]</span>

OK then... Copy and past the same in WordPad, Notepad, Word, what have you, and it will look like this:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Downtown]
"bDontShowAtLaunch"=dword:00000001
"bGoOnline"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Downtown]
"bDontShowAtLaunch"=dword:00000001
"bGoOnline"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\CommonFiles\Usage\Reader 9]
"OptIn"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\AVGeneral]
"bCheckForUpdatesAtStartup"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\AVGeneral\cToolbars\cFile\cInternalButtons]
"a0"="Print"
"a1"="SaveFileAs"
"a2"="endDialogGroup"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\AVGeneral\cToolbars\cFile\cExternalButtons]
"a0"="Print"
"a1"="SaveFileAs"
"a2"="endDialogGroup"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\AVAlert\cCheckbox]
"iwarnNoSaveOnFocus"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Synchronizer\9.0]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\9.0\DiskCabs]

Which is as it should be. So something is severely wrong about the way TextMaker handles HTML. So what I had to do (again) is use another program (notepad in this case) alongside TextMaker to be able to work with TextMaker... There should be NO PROBLEM in TextMaker handling any of this...

Now whatche gonna do about it is the question :D
