I am using Textmaker Professional 2012 Rev 665 and I use the software with an HP Inkjet printer.

When I use footers, the default properties for "Distance to edge" is always set to .39". This causes the footer to be truncated length wise as only the top portions of the header will print on the Inkjet. The fix for this is to increase the "Distance to edge" to .5" which does resolve the problem.

I use footers alot, and it gets monotonous changing the footer properties for each document. I have looked through the options and not been able to find this setting to make the default .5" instead of .39".

I understand the method of changing the default template for paragraph and character changes, however I don't want to insert a footer by default on the template. This appears to be the only way I can set the default "distance to edge". Or is there another way to do this?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

The only way I see is to create two templates:

- One temple without footnotes for new documents which will not contain footnotes
- Another template with a default footnote and the correct settings in the document

Yes, that will work. It wasn't what I was hoping for though.

Suprising that in Textmaker 2012 Professional there is no way to change this setting as a default, Microsoft Word 2007 has a default setting for this option in the page setup -> layout tab at the "headers and footers distance to edge" section. It is set by default to .5 inch, so I don't experience the footer truncation problem in Word and it is much less tedious therefore to work with footers in that application.

 I would like to make this a feature request if possible.

I have been using Softmaker office since version 2008, and find it a capable contender. I do find minor annoyances occasionally but can mostly work through them. The footer issue seems a minor problem unless you have to change the settings everytime you want to insert a footer, which for me is very often.

The second template is a workaround, but I would prefer not to have to pick a template each time I create a new document. I think that "default" template should be able to contain all the settings needed for the "default" document setup that I prefer to work with each time I open the application, just as in the case when using MS Word.

Thanks for creating a great product!

Well, if you create documents with footers and documents without footers (I suppose it's about footers, not footnotes, right?) you will have to choose a template anyway each time you start a new document. If footers with .5 distance is what you need normally, you could adjust your Normal.tmv correspondingly.

I will refer this as a feature request to our developers.

Yes it's about footers not footnotes and thanks for your reply Jossi, just as an example - if I am editing a document in MS Word and I need a footer in the document, all I need to do is insert a footer from the menu. I don't have to change any margin settings to get it to work with my inkjet printer. On the other hand, if I am using Textmaker, I have to insert a footer and change the properties each time so that I have .5" to edge in order to get the footer to print with my inkjet. The only way to change this behaviour is to save a template with a modified footer properties setup. Why create extra steps to accomplish something that is handled "under the hood" in MS Word?

The point was that in Word, users don't have to pick between different default templates. Word does un-deniably have some great features along with some features I don't like, and I would like to see all the great features in Textmaker without the others.

If things don't change, hey - you gotta do what you gotta do. But why not ask if it might result in a positive change in the software. Feature requests are good things.

Thanks for your input...
