I've been copy/pasting text from a .txt file, and would like to smarten it up. Is there a single "change straight quotes to smart quotes'" option? and with Tools > Options set to smart quotes, will straight quotes be flagged by the spell-checker?

Unfortunately, neither of these works. You can only do two "Search and replace" runs: the first one to replace { "} with { “} and the second one to replace {"} with {”} -- without the parentheses, of course. As there should always be a blank before an opening quote, this will do the trick.

Jossi

Thanks! I was just hoping they're might be an easier way <g>

Any chance of adding automatic conversion/spellcheck for straight quotes to the wishlist? or will using the `` and '' quotation marks in the .txt file give me smart quotes when I import into TextMaker?

We are working on a program extension that converts between smart and dumb quotes, but unfortunately it will be only available for Windows for the foreseeable future.
