Is there a way to avoid being asked the question each time I open a write-protected file whether I want to open it read only? I'd like this to be set to a default of "yes".

Similarly I'd like to avoid being asked "Do you want to save your changes" when existing. Opening a file as read-only does not allow me to make changes but Softmaker thinks I made changes anyway, judging by this question.

Thanks
Frank

No, you cannot deactivate these massages. If you open a write protected file in TextMaker, edit it, try to close TM and click on "Yes" when it asks you if you wish to save, TM create a copy of the write protected file which contains your changes.

Thanks but that doesn't help when using textmaker as a viewer of e-mail attachments. I don't need to save these.

P.S. This problem was related to Thunderbird e-mail. A workaround is below:

To make Thunderbird not save attachments as read only, do the
following:

Edit ... Preferences ... Advanced ... Config Editor ...
Click "I'll be careful"

Search for deleteTempFileOnExit
Assuming you don't find it, right click in the large window showing
all the parameter settings and then choose "New" ... "Boolean", add
"browser.helperApps.deleteTempFileOnExit" as name and choose "False"
as value.
