Greetings.
SMASH is an acronym for “SoftMaker Application SHell”. It is described (see below) as being used to display icons for the various members of SoftMaker office. A right click on it will cause a list of sortcuts for (quasi) common actions to appear.
While I certainly appreciate SoftMaker's obsequious attention to the (possible) needs of its customers, I'm not sure that my life would be measurably diminished without SMASH. On the chance that you are not as tough as I am <g>, I've attached a few SMASH screen shots for your review.
As far as SMASH starting with Windows, surely you can ask it not to? The “Preferences” menu (screen shot also attached) gives one the choice of having or not having SMASH start automatically; doesn't this work for you? Or haven't you tried it?
Cordially, Richard Kanarek SoftMaker Customer
Here is the introduction to SMASH from its help file:
Welcome to SMASH, the “SoftMaker Application Shell”.
SMASH is a little utility that displays icons for your SoftMaker Office applications in the system tray (at the bottom right corner of your screen). Clicking on these icons provides a very fast and easy access to your SoftMaker Office applications and documents.
Starting SMASH Unless you have unchecked it during the installation procedure, SMASH will be installed in a way that it is launched automatically every time you start Windows. Alternatively, you can start SMASH manually using Windows’ Start menu. To do so, click on Start > Programs > SoftMaker Office > Auxiliary Programs > Smash. ...
