When I export data from Quickbooks in Excel format and then open in Planmaker, the "suppress minus" is set, even though the spreadsheet that is generated by Quickbooks has minus signs that show up in the spreadsheet.

An example is attached.

To see the issue, do Format-Cell-Number on a block of highlighted numbers.

Hello,

I opened your example file with PlanMaker 2010, Open Office Calc and MS Excel 2010. The result is always the same and looks correctly. In which cell is a minus suppressed?

Sven,

The sheet displays correctly.. but if you check the formatting, as I outlined in my note, you will see that it is set for minus suppression.. even though the minus sign shows in the sheet.

I have attached another sheet.. it is the same one except that I have entered some additional numbers on row 15.. you will see that minus is suppressed in that I am subtracting 2 from 1 and getting 1 (no minus).

So.. the formatting doesn't match the display for the rows above 15. The minus suppression was set by default. It was not something I did.

In the exaample2.xls in cell E15 the formula is C15-B15. C15-B15 = 1 - 0, not 1 - 2. Therefore the result is 1 and correctly displayed. If I change the formula to C15-D15, I get -1. I added your file with the corrected formula.

When there's a problem, then we don't see it with these files, both are saved in PlanMaker, so the data is consistent.
What we need is the file generated from QuickBooks. Can you please send us such a file to forum(at)softmaker.de if there are still problems?

Thank you!

Sorry about the formula mistake..

The "Example" file I have sent is generated by Quickbooks

I have further defined the issue..

Please see the file QB Capture.jpg. This is what the file looks like in Quickbooks.

Then.. see the file report1.xls

This is the file generated by Quickbooks.
Line 8 displays correctly in Planmaker 2010 with a minus sign being substituted for parentheses.
Line 9 displays incorrectly.. cell D9 displays as a positive amount because the minus sign has been suppressed.
If you open this same file in Excel, both line 8 and 9 display correctly with parentheses.

So.. it appears that in line 8 the parentheses are replaced with a minus sign and in line 9 the parentheses are replaced by a "minus suppressed" number.

One is currency and the other is non-currency. The non-currency is handled correctly with the currency having the minus incorrectly suppressed.

I hope this further info will help.

Thank you for the screenshot and the new example file. I referred this problem to the developers for further investigations.

I know I'm harping on about this, but the screenshot from Quickbooks posted by davidr415 is a perfect example of the need to provide an accounting (bracketed) format for negative numbers, as I have requested in a separate thread.
