I would love to switch to SoftMaker to get away from the expensive and bloated Microsoft Office. However, after having used MS Word through many versions because of my company, I now have an archive of documents in previous Word formats (2.0 and earlier) that cannot be opened in TextMaker. Is there any chance of some further format converters being provided for old MS Word formats, not to mention WordPerfect?

Thank you.

Unfortunately, it is highly improbable that we will ever add these antique versions. Even Microsoft is making it harder and harder (on purpose) to read these old files.

Your best bet would be to batch-convert them once with MS Word (even a trial version) will do and then use the converted files in TextMaker. Alternatively, keep a copy of Microsoft's Word file viewer around. I think it supports copying from these files to the clipboard.

Thanks for the tip! I wasn't aware of the batch conversion wizard in MS Office. Converting 1000+ documents one by one was too daunting to think about....
