Installed Product - SoftMaker Office 2010 Revision 569

Firstly, seems as if there needs to be a Board for general SoftMaker Office issues which affect all applications, as this subject is not specific to one application.

I have installed SoftMaker Office, and then installed on to a USB device. When using this USB device in other computers, the individual applications load and work OK, but there is no "synergy" between the applications, like there is with a computer installation.

1. In TextMaker the application buttons for PlanMaker and SoftMaker Presentations are greyed out and are not functional. The BasicMaker icon is coloured / active but generates the error message "Windows cannot find 'x:\SoftMaker Office 2010\BMW32.EXE'. As bmw32.exe really does not exist, renaming BasicMaker.exe to bmw32.exe does make it work. Also scripts don't work and will always stop at the line calling the application ie for AllFonts.bas, it will stop at " Set tm = CreateObject("TextMaker.Application")"

2. The same problems of inactive buttons, button error messages, and scripts stopping at the application CreateObject line, occur with the other applications such as PlanMaker and BasicMaker.

To verify these faults, you will need to use a ported USB version on a computer which does not also have a fully installed version. Scripts have been verified functional on a fully installed version.

Hopefully the product code can be repaired to allow the required application inter-relationships.

cheers
BarryH

The lack of integration and issues with BM are because the usb install cannot access Windows OLE automation (necessary for what you are wanting to do). In order for that to work, you would need to have registry entries which is not possible since the usb install does not touch the registry.

I'd like to bump this up for response from the Softmaker Team.

I can understand it being an OLE issue if I was embedding one application within another Softmaker application ie a Planmaker document within Textmaker, however the issues described involve just jumping from one Softmaker application to another via the inbuilt buttons, and getting scripts to work within an application. This shouldn't involve OLE as all the applications reside in the same directory.

If it were a case of importing registry entries to a computer to allow USB operation, this would still be preferable to installing the whole application, so if this is an option then what are the required registry entries.

thanks

The icons in TextMaker, PlanMaker or Presentations to start another SoftMaker application need a registry entry in the host system. But there is usually no necessary entry in the registry if you start the application directly from a USB stick. That's one of the advantages of the USB installation: You don't need to edit the registry of the host system.
