A question regarding the ISO/IEC 29500:2008 compliant version of Office Open XML -- this is not natively supported by MSO 2007, but will be in MSO 2010. Will/does TextMaker support this format version?

More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_Open_XML

Hello,

since the docx format of MS Office 2010 is backward compatible with MS Office 2007, it is of course supported.

We are already working to support new features that will be introduced with MS Office 2010.

Thanks for your reply. The particular ISO/IEC 29500:2008 version of Office Open XML was not truly supported by MSO 2007. I was just wondering if SM2010 fully subscribes to the standards put forth by this Office Open XML format (which has nothing to do with Microsoft and is not developed by them).

I know docx formats are backwards compatible, and right now if you open a MSO Word 07 docx in MSO Word 2010, Word 2010 will show to be in 'compatibility mode' since Word07 did not support the 'new' features of Word 2010. However, when looking into those 'new features' of Word it basically seems to boil down to three main things: 1. Screenshot capability, 2. Background removal tool (both these are graphic capabilities), and 3. Protected Mode. Not that groundbreaking if you ask me, plus annoying that office 2007 shows to be in compatibility mode when opening 2010 documents and vice versa.

This would be another good case for switching to SoftMaker Office 2010!

The big change in Word 2010 is that it implements the new AutoShapes that have been introduced with Excel 2007 and PowerPoint 2007, but have been conspicuously missing from Word 2007.

This means that everything in DOCX files related to AutoShapes and drawings changes completely with Word 2010. That will be big change that we need to support (we already have this shapes support in our XLSX import filter, so the hard part is already done).
