Error message "Something went wrong" when installing
TextMaker 2002:
If the installation of TextMaker for Zaurus fails, the built-in
installer displays the extremely helpful error message "Something
went wrong. Sorry."
Cause:
During installation, TextMaker 2002 for Zaurus needs about 13 MB of
free memory. Many devices do not have that much memory available,
causing the installation to fail. When you install via the Qtopia
graphical user interface, the Sharp Zaurus just displays
"Something went wrong. Sorry".
As the installation archive needs to be unpacked to your system's
temp folder and then copied from there to the destination folder,
your Zaurus needs sufficient free space for the installation archive
(compressed, 3 MB), for the temporary files (uncompressed, 5 MB) and
for the files at their final destination (uncompressed, 5 MB).
Solution:
There are two ways to solve this problem. Both involve the use of an
external Flash memory card and telling the Qtopia software installer
to use this memory card as the storage place for the temporary files.
Variant 1: You create a symbolic
link from /home/tmp to a folder on the memory card. After
completion of the installation, you can remove the symbolic link again.
Variant 2: You edit the
configuration file /etc/ipkg.conf with a text editor of your
choice. This file will contain the following entry:
|
dest tmpinst /home/tmp/ipkg/inst |
Change the path to an arbitrary (existing) folder on your memory
card. After resetting your Zaurus, you can then install TextMaker
without problems.
Still got problems?
If the installation still fails, it is not due to lack of memory.
Therefore, you should cause the Zaurus software installer to show
more meaningful error messages. This can be done by not running it
from the graphical user interface, but from a console window.
Launch a console window (for example this
one) and type this:
|
ipkg install TextMaker_2002.ipk |
If installation now fails due to an error, a meaningful error message
will be displayed. Send it by e-mail to our technical
support department. |
