Answer: Check the instructions on the page Tips

If you do not want to start your documents in Times New Roman 10 pt
but use a different font by default, this is easy to change: Open the
dialog box of the Format > Character command, choose the
desired font attributes and click on the Set as Default
button. In the dialog box that appears now, choose "Change for
all new documents based on the default template". All future
documents that you base on the default template will now use your
chosen font settings. |
If you want to set a different default zoom level or paper size for
all your future documents, proceed as follows: Open the default
template Normal.tmv using the File > Open command and make
the desired changes. When done, save the document template. All
future documents that you base on this template will use your chosen settings. |

If you use a mouse with a scroll wheel, you can use it to quickly
change the zoom level of the document. Press the Ctrl button on your
keyboard, keep it depressed, and move the scroll wheel on your mouse
up or down. |

Even if you think it is annoying: Please do not insert blank lines
between paragraphs but set the spacing between paragraphs using
"Paragraph Spacing Before" and "Paragraph Spacing
After". You'll find these options in Format > Paragraph
or Format > Paragraph Style. The advantage is that
TextMaker then is able to suppress unnecessary empty space at the top
and bottom of pages. |

If you want to prevent two words from being separated because a line
break or page break happens between them, just enter a
"non-breaking space" between them. Do so by typing Ctrl+Shift+Space. |

For draft prints you can choose the option "Drop pictures"
in the Print dialog. Printing is much faster then because no
pictures are printed. |
After changing the printer driver in the File > Print
dialog, the button label switches from "Cancel" to
"Close". This means you can switch printers without
actually printing anything. |
You can select frames and objects even in edit mode: Just click on
them with the mouse. |
If you want the first page of your document to be pulled from a
different paper bin of your printer, you can set up the paper bins
using File > Page Setup. |
If you work in a local area network and you want all users to access
the same document templates, you can share the templates by setting
the path to a shared template folder in Extras > Preferences
> Files. |

Master pages are much more efficient than simple headers and footers.
The elements of master pages are not limited to the page margins but
can be placed anywhere on the page, e.g. for watermarks. |

You can insert pictures either as frames or in the body text (like
"large characters"). You can convert an inserted picture
subsequently into a frame and vice versa. To convert a picture in the
body text, cut it to the clipboard using Edit > Cut and
switch to the object mode. Now select Edit > Paste and the
picture appears as a frame. To go in the other direction, invert the procedure. |
