Components of SoftMaker Office anywhere

In SoftMaker Office anywhere, German software developer SoftMaker will realize numerous innovative concepts for the next generation of office software:

Online/Offline Office: SoftMaker Office anywhere can be used either as a conventional standalone software suite or as a client/server system (within your LAN or the Internet).

Multi-Platform: SoftMaker Office anywhere can be used with Windows 95 or higher as well as Windows CE and Linux. With the client/server version, it can even be used through a web browser – making it completely independent of the operating system.

Document Management System: The client/server version stores documents, contacts, appointments, e-mail messages, etc. on a central server. Users can access their documents with any PC, notebook computer, or Pocket PC. Changes to documents will be synchronized automatically.

Supports Microsoft Office Documents: In order to make document exchange with Microsoft Office users seamless, SoftMaker is developing a completely new filter for Microsoft Word documents, improving their Microsoft Excel filter and integrating ODBC and OLE DB support into their database module.

Working in Workgroups: Documents, contacts, appointments, e-mail messages, etc. can be shared amongst users. Of course, users have full control over which parts of their data can be read or modified by others. Users can set up workgroups and discuss topics with the integrated message board module.

All of this taken together results in an office suite that enables users to access their documents, appointments, e-mail messages, etc. at any time, in any place, on any kind of computer system – and even collaborate in the creation of documents.

SoftMaker Office anywhere consists of the following modules:

Fully integrated into the document management system of Office anywhere

Fully integrated into the workgroup capabilities of Office anywhere, supports revising of documents (redlining, editing, adding annotations)

DataMaker (Database)

Document Management System

Software is included as conventional desktop version and client/server version

Fully integrated into the document management system of Office anywhere

Accesses databases via ODBC drivers, thereby supporting virtually any database format (including Microsoft Access and SQL databases)

Manages all the documents, appointments, contacts, etc. a user creates

Automatically synchronizes data with all the devices a user owns (PC, notebook computer, Pocket PC etc.)

Intelligent document storage system, allowing users to find information much easier than with the conventional folders/files metaphor

Automatic indexing, comprehensive search facilities, high performance even with very large amounts of data

Workgroup Functions

Message boards for discussions and announcements

E-mail client for exchanging e-mails within the workgroup or across the Internet

Document Management System (see above)

Allows users to share certain documents, appointments, etc. with other users or workgroups

Editing, redlining, and adding annotations inside shared documents
